The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) currently supports seven international Industry Working Groups (I-WGs), these groups are made up of representatives from WANO’s membership. Each group has between 30 and 100 members who meet twice a year.
Each group works to solve issues in the industry by producing guidance, best practice documents and training. Many of them are eventually published as WANO documents. In addition, these groups are a channel for members to benchmark and network with industry peers, exchange operating experience, and provide guidance to one another to solve daily operational problems.
In 2024, 17 hybrid, in-person or virtual meetings were held, and altogether 90 different I-WG steering committee meetings.
With over 750 attendees, both in-person and online, they collaboratively achieved great milestones including publishing six industry documents and forming 16 additional sub-groups to develop new guiding documents.
